Free Daycare

Kumbatia daycare is a not for profit childcare center where parents can leave their children for the day and go to work or school without fear. We work with the local child protection agencies, as well as village elders, to identify the most at-risk children and they are offered the first spots. From there we take applications from local families to try to ensure that the neediest children are being taken into the daycare. Any family that is not accepted to the daycare is flagged and put on the list for our community outreach program to ensure that they are still receiving help. By caring for the children during the day we enable parents to go to work, and children to go back to school because they no longer have to care for their younger siblings. Our daycare ensures that every parent receives education in subjects such as English, good hygiene, and safety planning. We strive to ensure that every child is able to enjoy their childhood knowing that they are safe and loved.

Feeding Program

Our feeding program is a new program that strives to give local kids peace of mind knowing that they will receive food every day. We are working in partnership with local schools, as well as the families in our program to find families who are in need of assistance. Our school informed us that many kids are falling behind because they are malnourished, and they are often skipping terms because their parents can't afford the fees. These kids will be coming to Kumbatia every day for lunch where they will receive a meal, and will be given food to take home to their families. We will also ensure that every Friday they are given extra food to take home, to ensure they are eating over the weekend while Kumbatia is closed.  Community Outreach

Through our community outreach program we provide essentials to local families. We work to maintain close relationships with the local families and spend time getting to know their needs. We provide food for families that are struggling to feed their families, and make sure they have access to diapers, clothes, and other essential items. We also help provide locals with English lessons  so they may be able to further their education. In partnership with our daycare we look for young mothers who may be struggling and help them care for their children so that they may go back to school. 

Women's Empowerment

We hold weekly support groups for local women to help educate and empower them. We teach English, talk about good hygiene, help them plan ways to save money, and how to care for their children as well as skills like tailoring, knitting, or bead work. We also invite them to talk about problems they may be having and provide help from social workers for those who may need it. We work to ensure that every woman knows their worth and feels that they are valued and cared for. We also work with local women artisans to create products such as clothing, blankets, and jewelry that are then sold both locally and internationally through partner companies. 100% of proceeds come back to the women as well as to Kumbatia to help create sustainability.
